4 Fun Quarantine Activities for Pre-K Kids

By: Zelenka Smith

Quarantine has been hard for everyone, but for the moms who are home with their little ones, and trying to find something creative to do for what seems like the millionth time, things can get a bit exhausting and repetitive.

The kids are probably going stir crazy with the same activities, and parents are desperate for a change as well. During this time, my mom (the kids grandmother) and I have tried to come up with some fun ways to cure the “Quarantine Blues”.

Painting

The kids got to express their creativity, and go a little “paint crazy” when we spread out some newspaper on their kiddie table, and gave them their own personal canvas and acrylic paint. It kept them busy for a little bit, and it gave me a break from having to referee their fights.

Planting flowers

The day that my Mom showed up with soil, flower pots, and little shovels the kids’ eyes lit up! They loved being hands on and learning how to plant flowers with their Granny. The quality time that they spent with her is priceless, and now we’re in the process of watching our flowers grow!

Parachute

Something that I’m sure we can all remember from our grade school days is the parachute. An old school activity became current day outside play for my littles. It was cute and fun, and it gave me a chance to relive an old game with my children.

Sidewalk Chalk

This was another “oldie but goodie”. Giving the kids sidewalk chalk, and letting their imagination run wild on our long sidewalk was something that they had never done before. It gave them a chance to practice writing the alphabet, so I’m all for sneaking in a good lesson while having fun.

Finding different ways to make the best of this quarantine is the key to not driving each other crazy. And making sure that the kid brains are still being stimulated while missing daycare has been our goal; by the smiles on their faces and their enthusiasm to learn, I’d say that our mission is being accomplished!
